Job Summary
The Hydraulic Technician is responsible for conducting preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and overhauls of mobile heavy machinery and equipment. These include hydraulic and pneumatic systems, especially those found in large construction and industrial machinery such as cranes, wheel loaders, and excavators.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and servicing of heavy machinery as per company procedures and supervisor instructions.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using diagnostic tools and calibration devices.
- Repair or replace damaged or worn parts to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Test and inspect equipment post-repair to confirm compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Interpret and follow operating manuals, hydraulic schematics, and technical drawings.
- Dismantle and reassemble machinery using appropriate lifting and hand tools.
- Overhaul and adjust subassemblies such as transmissions, gear systems, and crawler heads.
- Rewire and troubleshoot electrical issues within the heavy equipment.
- Maintain detailed service reports, track time allocation, parts used, and parts returned.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and maintain accurate service records.
- Maintain workshop safety and cleanliness by adhering to disposal procedures for hazardous fluids like motor oil and by organizing tools.
- Support customer satisfaction by understanding service deadlines and delivering accurate, efficient repairs.
Workshop & Operational Commitments
- Strictly adhere to workshop processes and policies.
- Ensure timely, cost-effective processing of service requirements.
- Report any non-compliance or deviations from standard procedures to management.
- Follow safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a clean, hazard-free environment.
Essential Skills & Abilities
- Diagnostic and Troubleshooting: Strong skills in identifying operational errors, using diagnostic tools such as OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) systems.
- Hydraulic Equipment Knowledge: Ability to read hydraulic schematics, carry out maintenance, and ensure system efficiency.
- Time Management: Must manage own work schedule and complete tasks efficiently to meet job timelines.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work closely with technicians, supervisors, and assistants to complete repair tasks effectively.
- Communication: Clear communication is essential, particularly when interacting with team members and understanding customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
- ITI (Industrial Training Institute) Certificate or Technical Diploma in Mechanical or Hydraulic Systems.
- Formal training and certification in heavy equipment repair.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
